Water Channel Pathways |
Partschins (Parcines) water channel pathwayTotal distance: 5 km / total walking time: approx. 2 hrsThe water channel pathway begins ½ hour's walk from the centre of Parcines, in the direction of the waterfall. Passing the large Saltenstein to the right, it leads eastwards, past Burgstall and ends at Inn "Grasweger Keller" in the part of the village called Vertigen. |
Marling (Marlengo) water channel pathwayTotal distance: 13 km / total walking time: approx. 3 – 3 ½ hrsLike the others, the Marling (Marlengo) water channel pathway can be joined in various places. It begins at Tel, where the water is diverted from the Adige river, and extends across the slopes of the Marling (Marlengo) hill just above the villages, Forst (Foresta), Marling (Marlengo), Tscherms (Cermes), past Schloss Lebenberg castle as far as Raffeingraben near Lana where the water runs into the Falschauer river. Benches are located all along the route at points where the view is finest and you can stop off a numerous inns. The pathway was laid during the first half of the 18th century. |
Algund (Lagundo) water channel pathwayTotal distance: 5-6 km / total walking time: approx. 3 – 3 ½ hrsThe pathway along the Algund (Lagundo) water channel has two parts and is 5-6 km long. It is almost flat and enjoys splendid views over the Adige Valley. The western part starts at the car park before the bridge at Töll (Tel) and is easily reached by bus or by car. The path leads via Ober- and Mitterplars to the Grabbach and the picturesque old part of Lagundo, still known as the "Dorf". From there you can descend via the Burgweg to Mitterplars or through "Algund (Lagundo) -Dorf" to the centre of the village (Mühlbach). The eastern part of the path leads through picturesque wine terraces to Quadrat (Quarazze) and the little church of St. Magdalena. You can continue your walk or return to Algund (Lagundo), according to how you feel. |
Latschander water channel pathwayTotal distance: 6 km / total walking time: approx. 2 ½ - 3 hrsThis path begins at the Weiler Tiss in the village of Goldrain (Coldrano) and meanders along the sides of the "Sonnenberg" mountain above the Adige river ravine to reach Kastelbell (Castelbello). |
Schnals (Val Senales) and Ciardes water channel pathwayTotal distance: 10 km / total walking time: approx. 3 ½ hrsThe path leads through coniferous woods on the right side of the valley starting from Altratheis in the Schnals valley before heading steeply upwards. Please note that walkers must be fit, sure footed and not suffer from dizziness. You should also enquire about the state of the path from your hotelier or at the local Tourist Offices before leaving as the path may be dangerous after heavy rainfall! A longish downhill tract leads to the Juval Castle Buschenschank and the to Juval Castle where Reinhold Messner, the famous moutaineer and explorer lives. The castle museum houses Messner's rich collection of masks and exhibits from Tibet as well as a gallery of mountain paintings and is open to the public from 28.03. to the end of June and all of September and October. Walk on through birch woods to Ciardes, Colsano and Castelbello to return past the Kofelgut winery. |
Stava water channel pathwayTotal distance: 2,5 km / total walking time: approx. 1 hrThe path starts from Inn "Himmelreich" in Ciardes and meanders along the sides of the "Sonnenberg" mountain towards Stava. It passes the vineyards of the Unterortl winery on the Juvaler Burg hill where you can sample a glass of fine local wine towards the end of the walk. The Juval Castle shuttle bus will take you back along the valley or you can walk on to Stava along path no. 1. |
