The Merano High Alpine Route is one of the most beautiful in the whole Alpine area. With relatively small differences in altitude, to a certain extent it connects the high mountain climate of the Texelgruppe and the sub-Mediterranean climate of the Merano basin.

The pathways leading up and back down are numerous and the tour can begin wherever you choose. On the sunny slopes the pathways at up to 1,400 metres are accessible practically all year round. As if from a panorama terrace you can view Vinschgau valley, the Merano basin, the Passeiertal valley as well as the Sarntal valley, Stubai and Ötztal Alps. On a clear day you feel you can reach out and touch the Dolomites, the Brenta Group and the Ortler-Cevedale Massif. You can also experience at first hand the world of the mountain farmers, who have laboured for centuries to make this mountain and pasture landscape hospitable. In addition, the route leads around and through the 33,000 hectare large Texelgruppe Nature Park, passing lakes, valleys and peaks. To enjoy this route to the full it would be a shame to dedicate just one day. Try walking its whole length in 3 to 5 days. You can plan your itinerary yourself, but be sure to check sleeping arrangements before setting out. This is an excellent way of becoming acquainted with the vast range of contrasts characteristic of this mountain world. You can walk in a northerly or southerly direction.
